S.A.F.E.R.

Treatment

Ambroziak ESTEDERM Clinic is the first in Poland to offer the hair transplant treatment using the revolutionary S.A.F.E.R. (Suction Assisted Follicular Extraction and Re-implantation) equipment.

The equipment allows transplants of individual follicles. This technology rules out the risk of graft damage. During the procedure, the slicing tool penetrates inside the dermis to the depth of 1 mm only, and the whole hair structure is pulled out by means of negative pressure. This virtually completely eliminates the risk of mechanical damage to the hair bulb and surrounding bulbs.

During the second stage of the procedure, when the grafts are re-implanted, pneumatics heads “shooting in” the grafts into micro-cuts made in the dermis are used. The follicle extraction process is more precise than in case of  other treatments. Hair transplant using S.A.F.E.R. is the method which is most beneficial to the patient because of the least invasive character, much shorter as compared with other methods, convalescence time, with the smallest ratio of complications and it does not leave visible scars. Using S.A.F.E.R., the doctor extracts the best follicles, leaving small wounds which will heal without any signs.
The technology allows using areas different than the scalp only for the extracting of follicles. Hair may be transplanted from the beard, chest, arms or legs. This considerably extends the transplantation possibilities.

S.A.F.E.R. is a good solution for patients who previously underwent a transplant using the STRIP or FUE methods. Transplants performed with the S.A.F.E.R. method heal faster, with less discomfort. After one week, the patient may wear a short hairstyle, without visible scars. The technical functions of the device allow the doctor focus on the aesthetic objectives.

The treatment allows relocating hair which is genetically programmed to undergo a full number of the growth cycles from the donor area, with zero risk of rejection.

Treatment overview

The possibility to conduct the treatment is determined based on indications and contraindications, as well as the quantity and density of hair to be transplanted. The treatment process frequently involves two or three surgeries. The number of procedures depends on the surface of the treated area, the quantity and size of grafts used and individual characteristics of the patient.

Before the treatment

7-10 days before the treatment, the patient ought to undergo several necessary laboratory tests:

  1. Full blood count
  2. Coagulation system
  3. Blood glucose level before meals
  4. General urine test
  5. Hbs antigen
  6. Hcv antigen
  7. HIV

Results are to be furnished to the email address of the Clinic and brought with you when you come for the treatment.
If the patient smokes cigarettes, refraining from smoking is recommended for at least 24 hours before the procedure.
Refrain from drinking alcohol for 3 days before the treatment.

Do not take aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicines for 10 days before the procedure.

Do not take medicines containing minoxidil – up to 3 weeks before the procedure.
7 days before the procedure stop taking multivitamin preparations as well as vitamins B and E, which may cause increased bleeding during the procedure.

On the day of treatment:

Wash your head with shampoo, do not apply any lacquer, gel or conditioner.

In the morning, eat a light meal, take the medicines you take every day, e.g. against cardiovascular system diseases, diabetes, asthma.

Put on a sleeveless top and take a light cap or hat.

Before the treatment, the area from which the doctor will extract the follicles will be shaved to the hair length of 1mm.

The patient will wear a sterile overall.

The procedure takes 4-8 hours, depending on the number of transplanted hair.

The surgery is virtually painless thanks to the applied local infiltration anaesthesia.

During the procedure, the patient has the possibility to change the body position or have short breaks.

Before and after the treatment, the doctor makes a photographic documentation.

The procedure is safe, all tools are sterilised or disposable, as in the hospital practice.

After the treatment

The patient is discharged without a dressing and may wear a loose hat or cap.

Several hours of rest are recommended.

The patient should not drink alcohol, coffee or smoke tobacco.

In case of pain, the patient may take analgesics, e.g. paracetamol, pyralginum.

Cool compresses may be placed every 2 hours for a couple of minutes.
For a few days after the procedure, when the patient goes to sleep, the head should be raised at the degree of approximately 45o.

For up to three days after the procedure, the patient may experience slight itching of the operated areas. The feeling of numbness may be experienced for a few days up to a few weeks.

On the day following the surgery, the patient may wash the head under the shower, using warm running water for 5-10 min, but without touching the operated areas. Do not use a towel or hairdryer. Wash your head as above for 4-5 days after the treatment.

Possible forehead swelling, which occurs in case of some patients, may persist for 2-4 days. If the swelling increases, contact the doctor.

Avoid exhausting physical effort until the second week, avoid swimming in the swimming pool for 3 weeks, avoid exposition to sunlight or tanning bed for 6 weeks. Sun blocking products may be applied 3 weeks after the procedure.

Within 1-3 days, the transplanted hair bulbs are rooted.

After 5 days, you may start using children’s shampoo and rub the operated areas gently. Scabs fall off within 7-14 days after the surgery. Do not fear that the transplanted hair bulbs will fall off together with the scabs. As long as the transplantation area does not bleed, the hair bulbs remain in the right place. Transplanted hair starts growing for up to 3 months and it falls out. This is the effect of the surgery shock of the follicle which then enters the rest phase of 10-14 weeks. Then, the hair begins growing regularly. Full hair growth after the procedure may take up to one year.

During early growth stage, minor inflammation around individual grafts may occur, caused by growing of the new hair under the epidermis, manifested by tiny inflammatory blisters. This ceases after application of warm compresses. Scars in the recipient area are minimally visible already after 2 weeks and, moreover, they are covered by the growing hair shaved for the procedure.

LED phototherapy is recommended to support growth of the transplanted follicles and accelerating the healing process.

Properly transplanted follicles will produce hair until the end of the patient’s life.

After approximately 2 weeks, a follow-up medical consultation is required.

However, when a subsequent portion of “old” androgen sensitive hair falls out, the procedure needs to be repeated.
