Laser Harmony XL – DyeVL

Treatment overwiev

Each cell of the human body is genetically programmed for spontaneous ageing. In the case of skin, the processes may be accelerated as a result of years-long, intensive and excessive exposure to sunshine. In particular, this concerns uncovered areas of the face, neck, cleavage and shoulders. As a consequence of permanent influence of UV radiation, the skin undergoes premature aging – photoaging. It becomes excessively dry, creased, loses elasticity and demonstrates significant disorders in distribution of the dye (melanin). Histopathology tests performed at the dermis level report accumulation of irregular elastin masses, which is one of the main symptoms of aging and a certain skin "age test".

In this struggle, contemporary medicine uses a number of devices available on the market. The DyeVL treatment from the Harmony XL platform deserves particular attention. Removal of discolourations using this device bases on the light length which is well absorbed by melatonin. Heating of dye containing cells (melanocytes) leads to their thermal destruction. Immediately after the treatment, the pigmented lesion gets darker, but later on it is gradually absorbed and disappears. This method renders excellent results in the treatment of freckles, spots or discolourations developed as a result of interaction of certain drugs and sunshine.

DyeVL is a safe and very effective method for getting rid of skin erythema and all symptoms of photoaging. The treatment constitutes great prophylactics for shallowly vascularised, sensitive skin, prone to development of erythema. It is also used in the prophylactics and treatment of rosacea.

The latest DyeVL head is the first narrow-band, pulsating source of light. It is considered to be a state of the art technology, whose effects are comparable with dye lasers. It enhances the versatility, efficiency and safety of IPL.

DyeVL uses a series of three filters and concentrates the light within a narrower range. The technology allows efficient treatment of patients with pigmentation disorders as well as vascular lesions. Thanks to emission of light in the range of 500 to 600 nm, the skin is subject to minimum exposure to other light lengths, which lets achieve better therapy treatments effects within a shorter time. Moreover, comfort during the treatment is enhanced thanks to application of a unique cooling device, connected directly with the treatment head.

Effectiveness of treatments with the DyeVL head has been clinically proven. The treatments are absolutely safe to patients, efficient, virtually painless and do not require any convalescence period.

Therapy schedule

Before treatment:

Patients are qualified for the treatment by a doctor. The doctor evaluates the discolourations and pigmented nevi, as well as the number, diameter, colour and depth of vascular lesions, and considers individual skin sensitivity and reaction. During the first phase of the treatment, qualified patients undergo the so-called clinical laser trial in order to ensure optimum adjustment of energy value and impulse duration, allowing the best possible effect along with maximum safety and comfort (e.g. insufficient energy will not close vessels or remove discolourations, whereas too high energy will burn the epidermis and cause pain). The final exposure parameters setting is dependent on the doctor's decision.

The therapy schedule involves 4-6 treatments at 3-6-week intervals (individual schedule)

Treatment process:

  • cleansing of the skin
  • putting on the eye protector
  • application of transparent gel onto the skin
  • beginning of work (impulse similar to a camera flash) – During the treatment, the patient may experience burning and heat released during the impulse.

The latest version of the device has a cooling system which additionally lets reduce the unpleasant sensations. Duration of the treatment differs depending on the area of the skin being treated.

Post-treatment recommendations

  • absolute prohibition of sun tanning: minimum 4 weeks after the treatment
  • sun protection: the skin must unconditionally be protected against sunshine for at least 1 month after the treatment, using SPF creams
  • factors causing expansion of blood vessels (physical effort, sauna, temperature changes) must be avoided for 4-5 days
  • make-up: in case of damaged epidermis, make-up should not be applied onto the exposed areas for app. 1-2 days after the treatment; in other cases, make-up may be applied on the day following the treatment

For a few days after the treatment:

  • do not use soap, spirit, tonics on the basis of alcohol
  • do not perform scrubs and other treatments (allowed after contact with the doctor performing the laser treatment)
  • do not wipe the treated areas with a sponge or towel
  • do not cause skin irritation in the treated area

Contraindications and side effects

  • pregnancy
  • fresh suntan (1 month)
  • light sensitising drugs (retinoids, antidepressants, tetracyclines)
  • herbs (St John's wort, marigold)
  • consumption of alcohol (24 hours before the treatment)
  • diabetes (unbalanced)
  • leucoderma
  • psoriasis (active phase)
  • epilepsy
  • blood coagulation disorders, use of drugs reducing blood coagulation
  • tendency to develop keloids

Possible symptoms after the treatment:

  • erythema and swelling may develop after the treatment as its immediate effect; the symptoms disappear within 24 hours
  • in case of a strong impulse, a frequent effect of the treatment is browning and exfoliation of the epidermis within the first 3 days after the treatment; in that case, thorough oiling of the skin and use of antiseptic products is necessary (post-treatment recommendations)

Complications:

  • very rare on condition of observing the recommendations and precautions
  • epidermis continuity damage – micro-eschars – healed within 2-5 days
  • skin reddening disappearing within a few hours may develop in the exposed area
  • skin pigmentation changes – skin discolourations or colour losses which usually develop in patients with suntan or with a dark skin complexion, who may suffer hyperpigmentation despite sun protection (this effect, however, disappears within 6 months)
  • in herpes virus carriers, activation of the virus may occur in the treated area

Indications

  • Skin flaccidity (photoaging)
  • Mild vascular lesions
  • Discolourations
  • Flat angioma
  • Rosacea
